Westerly Professional Development Seminar

Westerly will be running a professional development seminar for teachers of English on Wednesday October 21st, from 5-7.30pm. The seminar will be held at the Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery, on campus at the University of Western Australia in Crawley.

The evening will include five short lectures from professionals in the field, and offer three new texts for study, as well as approaches in teaching poetry and creative writing:

  • Dr. Tony Hughes-D’aeth (University of Western Australia) on Julia Leigh’s The Hunter
  • Charlotte Guest (UWA Publishing) on Amanda Curtin’s short story collection Inherited
  • Dr. Lucy Dougan (Curtin University) and Claire Jones (University of Western Australia) on poetry in the classroom
  • Cate Sutherland (Fremantle Press) on Brendan Ritchie’s young adult title, Carousel
  • Dr. Catherine Noske (University of Western Australia) on creative writing in the 2016 ATAR English syllabus

Every participant will be offered a take-home pack including a free copy of a Westerly back issue, and resources from the seminar. Drinks and nibbles will also be on offer, and it should be a lovely evening!
