Last Thursday, November 23rd 2017, saw the launch of Westerly’s new special online issue: Flux. Our attendees were treated to a special networking experience: publishers and writing organisations from around Perth gave young writers the chance to talk about opportunities. The ‘speed dating’ format was intense, loud, and a lot of fun.
There were two more special treats on the night: Maddie Godfrey’s impressive reading of her poetry, and a panel discussion led by Flux editor Katie McAllister. McAllister spoke to Susan Midalia, representing Margaret River Press; Georgia Richter, publisher at Fremantle Press; and Charlotte Guest, representing UWA Publishing. McAllister asked our panel about the ups and downs of publishing, and the things that writers can do to maximise their chances in a competitive world.
