Launch of issue 63.1 of Westerly!
You are invited to join us to celebrate Westerly‘s first print issue for 2018! This diverse collection of work from 55 authors includes the voices of Claire G. Coleman, Phillip Neilsen, Beejay Silcox, Dan Disney, and a host of others, along with the emerging writers from our 2017 Writers’ Development Program. Issue 63.1 also features writing from the Sun Yat-sen International Residency, a publication exchange with The Indian Quarterly, and the winning essay from the Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery Art Writing Prize, written by Amanda Gardiner. We are also proud to announce in this issue the winner of the 2017 Patricia Hackett Prize: Caitlin Maling, for her creative non-fiction essay ‘Travelling Through the Dark: Six Weeks in Oregon’, which was published in Westerly 62.1.
Each issue has its own preoccupations, its own significant differences. Themes that emerged from material selected for this issue include life, death, and the role of art in response to mortality. The issue contains a great selection of Indigenous works, with writing from Len Collard and Natalie Harkin among others. Supporting our commitment to high-quality visual content, the issue also uses evocative images to illustrate powerful writing.
The issue will be officially launched by respected Western Australian poet & educator Dr Marcella Polain, at the Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery at UWA. Light refreshments will be provided. Admission is free, but tickets are limited. To RSVP, click on the image below.
